American fell to Army 82-70 on Saturday, dropping its fifth straight game and falling to 5-18, 2-10 in the Patriot League. See below for five key plays/sequences from the game.
1. Army capitalizes on American turnovers early
After a 9-9 start, American let Army build a double-digit lead with five turnovers. The live-ball giveaways especially allowed the running Black Knights to get out in transition.
2. American gets back into game with contributions across the board
The Eagles, as they have for most of the season, were resilient and got back into the game thanks to contributions across the board including some good offense from freshman Stacy Beckton, who has played 25, 32 and 26 minutes the last three games with James Washington out.
3. American starts second half with back-to-back 3s
It's no secret that American has struggled mightily from the 3-point line during its five-game skid, and Saturday's first half was mostly the same. But when the Eagles are hitting from outside, they're at their best and 3s by Sam Iorio and Marvin Bragg to start the second half got them within two, 40-38.
4. Sam Iorio with sixth 20-point game
Freshmen Sam Iorio has been tremendous all season for the Eagles, and he continued to impress with his sixth 20-point game of the season. Despite the losses, American has to feel good about the progress of Iorio in his first year of playing college ball.
5. Army finishes American with timely 3-point shooting
There's a reason Army is the 16th best team nationally shooting 3s (41 percent), and Saturday the Black Knights killed American from the outside. Every time the Eagles made a push in the second half, Army responded with a 3 and it finished 13-for-28 from the perimeter.
