Five Key Plays: American 60, Boston 56

American beat Boston 60-56 Wednesday night to snap a seven-game losing streak. See below for five key plays/sequences from the game.

1. American comes out making 3s
Boston came out in a 2-3 zone and American picked up where it left off against Lehigh by shooting well from outside. The Eagles used crisp passes to knock down 6-for-15 from 3 including a four-point play by Sam Iorio to take a 35-28 halftime lead.

2. American throws ball away to begin second half
Sa'eed Nelson said AU wasn't necessarily expecting BU to change its defense in the second half, but that's what the Terriers did and it rattled American as the Eagles turned the ball over nine times in the first eight minutes of the half and lost their cushion.

3. Max Mahoney is a beast down low
Whether guarding him with height (Jesse Little), strength (Sam Iorio) or trying to recover on the pick-and-roll, American had no answer for most of the game but especially in the second half for Max Mahoney. He had three and-one opportunities and helped Boston take the lead late. Mahoney finished with 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting.

4. Sam's winning plays late
When American needed big plays late, Iorio delivered on both ends. Just watch.

5. Sa'eed with the clinching layup
It's no secret that American has struggled to finish games this year. Often, the Eagles have been one tough basket away from getting a W. On Wednesday, Sa'eed Nelson provided that with this drive to the hoop. Nelson completed another efficient scoring game (7-for-14 FGs, 17 points) with the clinching bucket for a needed win.
