Head coach Mike Brennan spoke after American fell 64-58 to Wagner Friday, snapping a three-game winning streak. See below for video and some quotes.
On the offense sputtering:
Our offense sputtered in the second half. They’re a very good defensive team, they don’t give you anything easy. We had a couple of shots down the stretch where we had to make them to win a game like this, but they made tough plays and made some key shots down the stretch themselves.
On fouling during the last minute down two:
In retrospect, I wanted to get a stop, and then try and score quickly if we get the rebound. But I wanted to lengthen the game so we fouled right away. It didn’t work out. We’ve been on the winning side of a couple of close game and I don’t want to say it’s a good thing, but you can get fooled into thinking you’re better than you are. For example, if Nigel Jackson doesn’t make that three or if something goes our way, then we don’t address the things we need to address.
On Gasperini’s stamina:
We’re rotating him in and out a lot. He’s still playing a ton of minutes. I think he’s doing well. He’s making plays and scoring in the post and got some tough rebounds tonight.
