Five Key plays: Navy 70, American 64

American dropped a close one 70-64 at Navy Friday night, dropping to 3-11, 0-3 in the Patriot League. See below for key plays/sequences from the loss.

1. Navy comes out firing, makes first seven shots
American ran into a buzzsaw early, as Navy came out firing and made its first seven shots to build a 19-10 lead.

2. Three players knock down 3s from American
While Navy was red hot, American countered by making three of its first five from deep to weather the storm a bit early and stay within striking distance. American now has six players who have made at least nine 3s on the season.

3. Bryce Dulin can't miss from 3
Ultimately this game will be remembered (or not) for Navy's Bryce Dulin, who entered the game shooting 29% (17-58) from 3 but went 7-for-8. That's just bad luck.

4. Sam Iorio and Sa'eed Nelson bring AU back
American fell behind by as many as 16, but Sa'eed Nelson and Sam Iorio brought the Eagles back — getting to within 58-55 with plenty of time left. The chemistry between the two is clearly there, as Sam finds the right seams for cuts and gives Nelson space with solid screens. While Sam playing the 5 isn't ideal for AU, the two of them run the offense together smoothly.

5. American can't finish again, as Navy goes on 8-0 run
Whatever the case may be, American can't quite finish these games. Tired legs may be an issue, but a common theme is turnovers, and once again a dry spell and a bout of miscues doomed the Eagles as Navy hung on.
