Five Key Plays: Lafayette 62, American 53

American lost 62-53 to Lafayette on Saturday to fall to 4-14, 2-6 in the Patriot League. See below for five key plays/sequences from the game in video form.

1. CB Diallo ignites American offense in first half
After a slow start, CB Diallo ignited the American offense with seven quick points as the Eagles raced out to a 27-13 first-half advantage.

2. Sa'eed Nelson fouls out
The refs were not great, but Sa'eed Nelson also committed some foolish fouls. His third foul especially was a blatant push of Matt Klinewski, who still made the layup. Nelson's foul trouble forced American to basically play the last 15 minutes without its best player and offensive creator.

3. Lafayette gets offense going to start second half
American was very effective defensively in the first half and helped too by an uncharacteristic poor half by Lafayette's Matt Klinewski. But he and the Leopards got unhinged to start the second half, scoring on five of their first six possessions.

4. James Washington provides only offense with Nelson on bench
With Sa'eed Nelson on the bench, American struggled to find any offense and maintain its slim lead. James Washington did all he could to keep the Eagles even with three big field goals as he scored a season-high nine points off the bench.

5. Lafayette scores inside and outside late to finish American
American hung tough without its best player and creator, but ultimately Lafayette wore down the smaller eagles inside and helped seal the contest with a huge 3 late.
