Five Key Plays: American 69, Boston 58

American knocked off first-place Boston U Wednesday night on the road, 69-58, the Eagles' best win of the year. See below for five key plays/sequences from the game.

1. American turns it over against BU man to man defense
The game had a familiar feeling early, as American became sloppy with the ball midway through the first half — when BU switched from a soft 2-3 zone to man — and six turnovers helped BU build a five-point lead.

2. Sa'eed Nelson ignites American offense
Sa'eed Nelson needs to be the leader and dictator for the Eagles, and that's exactly what he did in attacking the BU defense with AU down eight and scoring or assisting on six quick points.

3. American ends first half on 13-0 run
From there, American put on a clinic to end the first half with 13 consecutive points (it would make it 15 straight at the beginning of the second). BU didn't score the last 7:26 of the half.

4. American hits three huge 3s to take commanding lead
American struggled for the first 30 minutes from behind the arc, but with the game tied 41-41, the Eagles hit three huge triples to grab a commanding lead they wouldn't relinquish.

5. American makes winning plays down the stretch
Mike Brennan has talked often after close losses about American just not doing the little things you need to win games. That was not the case late against BU. From Marvin Bragg's tip out that led to a Sam Iorio 3 to James Washington's acrobatic pass to Iorio in the corner for another 3, AU made all the plays to seal the win.
