Five Key Plays: St. Francis 100, American 89

American had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 100-88 loss at St. Francis (Pa.). Here are five key plays/sequences from the loss.

1. American scores on five of first six possessions
The Eagles came out powerfully on the offensive end, taking the ball to the basket and scoring consistently. Larry Motuzis and Sa'eed Nelson got to the rim, and Jesse Little scored as well.

2. St. Francis goes on 19-2 run
It's one thing to struggle to get a stop as AU did, but the Eagles didn't help themselves with careless turnovers that led to even easier offense for the Red Flash in transition.

3. American can't stop ball on perimeter
It's hard to stop a team when you can't contain penetration, and the Eagles couldn't all night, especially as St. Francis built its big lead.

4. American goes on 13-0 second-half run
Just when everything seemed lost, the Eagles stormed back with a 13-0 spurt to get within seven points. Offense was never the issue for AU. Nelson scored 24 points and Motuzis added 23 as they kept churning and gave AU a chance late.

5. (No video): More of the same, with AU not getting stops
Because of technical difficulties, no video here. But it was more of the same. Despite its offense staying on track, the Eagles couldn't get closer than seven points late because they couldn't get a stop, with St. Francis scoring on eight of nine possessions to seal the game.
