Five Key Plays: Wagner 71, American 70

American lost a heartbreaker to Wagner 71-70 Saturday, blowing a late lead in the final minutes. Below are five key plays/sequences from the loss in video form.

1. AU's new guys dig Eagles out of early hole
Facing a 12-point deficit, it looked like American might be heading toward another lopsided loss. But then Marvin Bragg knocked down a 3, and Sam Iorio really got into it with a steal/layup and deep 3. Just like that, AU was back in it.

2. Wagner turnovers aid American
A lot of them were unforced, but still American's defense helped cause miscues on six of eight Wagner possessions toward the end of the first half as the Eagles drew closer.

3. Sam Iorio's personal 8-0 run
Have yourself a game, Sam! Here he hits a corner 3, sneaks in from the weakside for an and-one putback and converts in transition. Sam would finish with 24 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

4. Gaffes in the last two minutes
American didn't handle crunch time well at all. First, a foul to allow Wagner back within 64-59. then a turnovers and a Wagner 3. American went back up five, but fouled again to let Wagner get back to three. A Motuzis turnover and yet another foul followed, Sa'eed missed a free throw and had a  bad reach-in foul for an and-one, and all of a sudden it was 70-69. Sa'eed then threw the ball away, setting the stage for Wagner to take the lead.

5. American can't convert in final seconds
After Wagner took the lead, Sa'eed got blocked at the rim. Still, American had a final chance and Nick Macarchuk made a great pass but Marvin Bragg couldn't convert at the buzzer.
