Lehigh 70, American 55: Postgame press conference

Head coach Mike Brennan and junior Alex Paquin spoke after American fell 70-55 to Lehigh to drop to 5-18, 2-10 in the Patriot League.

Mike Brennan
ON LEHIGH'S KAHRON ROSS
"A player like Ross isn't gonna struggle for long. He's one of the best guards in the league obviously. Again, you can't focus on one guy because they've got so many guys who can hurt you."

ON THE MATCHUP ZONE 1ST HALF VS SECOND HALF
"We did (use) it in the second half. They were just better at attacking it. It slowed them down certainly in the first half. I don't think at the end of the day it's an answer for a full game. At some point you gotta guard."

MORE ON THE ZONE AND BEING COMFORTABLE WITH IT
"We did it tonight so obviously we're getting more comfortable doing it. We've just got to spend time in practice working on it."

ON WHAT ALEX PAQUIN PROVIDES OFFENSIVELY
"A little bit of everything. He knows where he's supposed to be. He's in the right spots. He's sort of aggressive about everything he does. So hopefully he can continue along those lines and keep helping us."

ON ADJUSTING TO HELP GASPERINI CONTINUE TO BE EFFECTIVE
"We're asking a lot of Mark right now, throwing him the ball every time downcourt and when to score, when to pass, when to stay with the offense. It takes a while to learn. I thought in the first half he was aggressive and was able to score. I thought in the second half we didn't get him the ball as deep and he was trying to do too much of that and not pass so it's a balance that — it's not easy. You want him to be aggressive, but that's probably the next thing we'll work with him on is picking and choosing and recognizing and knowing how to get more out of our offense throughout the whole shot clock."

Alex Paquin
WHAT POSITIVES CAN YOU TAKE AWAY FROM FIRST HALF?
"It just means we're there — we're there with every team. We always have these close games and then we have a little letdown. So if we can stick two halves together, I think we can start winning games and make a run at the end (of the season)."

ON PROGRESSION OF HIS GAME OFFENSIVELY
"I think I can be the guy who really creates for others, sticks with the offense and doesn't make mistakes. And also when I get my shots, make them. Just basically do what the coaches ask me to do. And obviously I know I can score a lot, I can make a lot of shots so to know when to shoot, when not to shoot, when to create for others and when to be aggressive, when not to be aggressive. Kind of the glue guy."

WHAT ARE BIGGEST THINGS KEEPING TEAM FROM WINNING GAMES AND WHAT'S TEAM MORALE?
"Obviously it's been a rough year. We know we're good. So that's the thing. It would be really hard if we knew we shouldn't win games but I think as a whole team guys are really confident in our abilities and that we know we can win those games. ... we see it every game. We're there within four points with every team."

ARE THERE SPECIFIC THINGS THAT ARE KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING THE WINS?
"A lot of things is aggression. We need to be more aggressive — 50/50 balls, rebounds, boxing out. That's some things that usually young teams have trouble with. I think right now we really have to start looking at Charlie and imitating everything he does because you guys see it every day — Charlie's just out there hustling and making plays."
