Bucknell 69, American 60: Mike Brennan and Lonnie Rivera postgame

Head coach Mike Brennan and sophomore Lonnie Rivera spoke after Bucknell defeated American 69-60 Thursday night. Full video above and select quotes below.

Mike Brennan
ON SHOT SELECTION DOWN THE STRETCH
"Yeah, probably too much stuff outside. I thought we were sort of sticking with our offense a little more earlier in the game. So once they come back, (we) feel like we gotta get it back in one or two passes."

ON MACKENZIE AND BROWN PRESENTING MATCHUP ISSUES
"I mean, guarding the ball screen is a problem so we gotta get better at that. They just don't let you relax. If you don't sprint back on defense every single time, they make you pay. If you don't guard the ball screen properly every single time, they make you play. So that's what happened late in the game."

ON IF THOUGHT ABOUT FOULING FOULLAND LATE
"Yeah, yeah, but I'm also measuring that — if we get one stop and you can score, it changes how you think about that stuff. We got so much to think about and work on that that kind of stuff is sort of secondary until it actually happens. That's something we have to keep thinking about because you're always going to be in close games in league play. Stuff we've gotta try to find time to work on."

LEON TOLKSDORF HEALTH UPDATE?
"We got to talk to our trainers and find out."

Lonnie Rivera
ON GETTING UP TO SPEED AFTER MISSING TIME
"I feel little bit better. Obviously I missed a lot but I'm kind of trying to figure out, just figure out what my role is now — see what I gotta do and catch up with everybody else."

WHAT DO YOU SEE GOING TO THE HOLE, FINISHING AT THE RIM
"I try to see opportunities. Obviously still I'm not completely sure when I should be driving yet but I guess I try to see opportunities with (when) the man closing out on me is kind of late a little bit, then I can try to drive. And then if the center on other team isn't coming up fast enough, I think I have an opportunity for a layup. I just gotta work on making the pass out of it too so if the center comes up, I've got to work on stopping and kicking it out."

ON SHOOTING THE 3
"I'm still working on my shot, trying to be me more confident. That was my main goal — if I have a good shot, trying to be a confident shooter. Pretty much the way I got my shots today was just how Delante and the other guards were able to attack the basket and just my man would be helping or playing off. So I would just get the opportunity to be wide open and shoot 'em."
