Colgate 70, American 65: Postgame quotes

Head coach Mike Brennan spoke after American fell 70-65 to Colgate, dropping the Eagles to 5-16 (2-8 Patriot League). Full transcription of quotes below.

OPENING STATEMENT
"Well we couldn't get stops essentially. They shot really well from the field. I thought offensively we looked better than we have, just got to be able to get stops at the end of the day. They made some close shots toward the end, they've been in close games so they finished it out today. We've go to learn how to finish out the game."

ON EFFECT DEFENSIVELY OF GASPERINI FOUL TROUBLE
"Yeah, he can't get in foul trouble. But I was pleased with his progress. He's coming along. You don't know when everything's gonna take. A lot of stuff that we've been working with him on — it's showed up. He's getting confident, he's getting comfortable. So I was happy with everything he did offensively — making hard moves, finishing plays. So now it's just keeping him on the court. That's something that's hard to learn for big guys."

ON COLGATE SWITCHING DEFENSIVE LOOKS ON GASPERINI
"They went to like a matchup zone, which Holy Cross and Navy have done. But I thought we did a way better job of attacking it today. We still got drives, we still threw it in. We missed a few opportunities and then when Gasperini got into foul trouble, Charlie's not as big of a target. But we definitely made an effort to do more of the stuff that we talk about, just not enough today."

ON GIVING UP MOST OF THE 14-POINT LEAD IN THE FIRST HALF
"It was more there was a matchup where we stopped scoring so we've got to be able to recognize things on the fly as opposed to needing a timeout and halftime to sort adjust. But it's not easy. And, you know, there's runs. We're still winning at halftime."

ON LONNIE GETTING EXPERIENCE IN LATE-GAME SITUATIONS
"Obviously he can score a little bit, and he's gotta get this experience. Delante played all last year and a few of the other guys, you know James and Andrija played a ton last year and Lonnie didn't and Lonnie's been hurt, so he hasn't had minutes this year either. So he's gotta find his comfort level out there, too, and again practicing would help. He's been getting more reps in practice, but once he's fully healthy that practice will help him a lot."

HOW MUCH IS THE FOOT BOTHERING JALEN?
"Enough to not play and not be effective when he's out there"
