Five Key Plays: Navy 71, American 53

Navy defeated American 71-53 to drop the Eagles to 2-7 in Patriot League play. Here are five key plays/sequences from the game.

1. Navy comes out on 11-0 run.
After coming off  a disappointing loss on Monday to Holy Cross and tying a season high of 23 turnovers, it was interesting to see how the Eagles would react to another 1-3-1 zone. It wasn't good. American struggled to find open looks with many possessions coming down to the last few seconds. Navy hit open shots, got to the rim, and set the tempo early on the offensive boards.

2: AU makes their own 12-0 run.
Not so fast! This was a game of runs. After looking like the Eagles would be in for a long night, they scored the next 12 points, including 3-pointers from Lonnie and Gasperini.

3: Navy outhustles American:
After the game, Mike Brennan said this was the first game all year he felt his team was "whooped." Navy had the energy all night, sparked by Tom Lacey. Watch him sprint down the court, right by a jogging Gasperini, and finish an emphatic dunk. This play was a metaphor for the Eagles' entire night.

4. Abdullah back to back 3s:
Somehow, someway American was able to cut it to only 7 points midway through the second half. But the run was short-lived thanks to back to back 3's from Hasan Abdullah.

5. Navy dominates offensive glass:
Navy crushed the Eagles on the offensive glass 16-3. Lacey was a beast all night with 10 of his own. This led to many second, third, and even fourth chances where Navy capitalized and ultimately put the game away.
